With better technology, particularly in the availability or portable computer-type devices, I think now would be a good time to push more participation in the website. Also, CCE is trying to interest more members in STEM (I really dislike this acronym...) projects so it would fit more than a few years ago when I first tried. Let's see how it goes.

We saw how the crusher ground apples with a thick iron drum, which had flat teeth. It spun around and around, shaving apples into small chunks. The pulp went into a muslin (cloth) placed inside a rack. When it was full we stopped the motor and folded the muslin into a bag.

Three bags got stacked on top of each other with slats in between. The presser had a turn-wheel which squeezed the muslins full of juice-filled apple pulp until all the cider was pressed out. The cider was then strained through a milk filter then it was bottled into old juice and soda bottles.

You can't imagine what goes into getting together a local field trip. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but I don't like to use the phone. (A big handicap as a 4-H leader...) That''s why I am trying really hard to get the website up and running. I think that centralizing information and communication will help out a lot - for me anyway. Then again, as a web developer, I would say that! My default answer to any problem is, "Start a website."

I brought blueberry muffins, chocolate chip cookies with cranberries and coconut, a hat rack and a flower collection. I got a red ribbon on the blueberry muffins because they weren''t puffy enough. The cookies got a blue ribbon because they were moist. I got a blue ribbon on the flower collection because it was built well. The hat rack had a red ribbon because the sticks were loose.
